The word 'simp' dates back to hip-hop slang of the 1980s and 90s, derived from 'simpleton' and meaning a foolish or gullible person. It was used in songs by Too $hort and others. The modern internet usage exploded in late 2019 when TikTok's 'Simp Nation' trend repopularized the term, applying it specifically to men who are overly accommodating to women they're attracted to.
